Tyreek Hill’s second-half emergence was the talk of the NFL as he electrified crowds with his stunning speed. But there was at least one player who would have appreciated less explosiveness from Hill.
According to ESPN, Vikings defensive back Marcus Sherels’ contract includes a $100,000 bonus for leading the NFL in punt return average, which he was until Hill returned yet another punt for a touchdown in the third quarter against the Chargers on Sunday.
The 95-yard score helped Hill finish the season with an NFL-leading 15.2 yards per return. Sherels averaged 13.9 yards per his 21 returns. Hill would have finished the season at 13.1 had he opted to let the ball go into the end zone.
Hill’s touchdown helped the Chiefs clinch the No. 2 seed in the postseason, thus avoiding any chance of playing the Patriots in the second round.
